Learned borrowing from Sanskrit शीर्ष (śīrṣa, “head”). Cognate with Pali sīsa, whence Thai สีสะ (sǐi-sà).

     สายเกาทัณฑ์นั้นกระทบศีรษะแม่มือเจตะสุกรี

     sǎai gao-tan nán grà-tóp sǐi-sà mɛ̂ɛ mʉʉ jee-dtà-sù-grii

     That bow string hit the thumb of Chetasukri.
     (literally) That bow string hit the chief of the hand digits of Chetasukri.
