Etymology 1

From Proto-Tai *wɯǝŋᴬ (straw; stubble).[1]

Cognate with Northern Thai ᨼᩣ᩠ᨦ or ᨼᩮᩬᩥᨦ, Isan เฟือง, Lao ເຟືອງ (fư̄ang), Shan ၽိူင်း (phóeng) or ၾိူင်း (fóeng), Ahom 𑜇𑜢𑜤𑜂𑜫 (phüṅ), Bouyei feangz, Zhuang fiengz and fangz (dialectal).
