Perhaps derived from Proto-Yeniseian *ɢojq (“gall?, bile?”).[1][2] Cognate with Ket ӄълей (qʌ́lɛj, “yellow”), 18th century Imbak Ket kagalɨŋbasam (“yellow”) (M., W., VW.) and kɨalmas (“green”) (Ad.).
