  1. (obsolete since 1920) A region located in the area between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean sea (Cisjordan), usually contrasted with Eastern Palestine (Transjordan).

      Another striking peculiarity of the land beyond Jordan is its fine water supply as contrasted with Western Palestine, especially with the upper lands of Judæa.

Usage notes

  • After the creation of Mandatory Palestine in 1920, the area east of the Jordan river was no longer considered to be part of Palestine, making the term obsolete.
