Etymology

  • From earlier *tekti, from Proto-Balto-Slavic *tek-, from Proto-Indo-European *tekʷ- (to run, flow).[1] Baltic cognates include Lithuanian tekė́ti (to flow, run), 3sg. tẽka and Latvian tecêt (to flow, run), 1sg. teku.[2] Indo-European cognates include Sanskrit तक्ति (tákti, to rush), Old Irish tachid (to flee).
