     Since Hàn Thuyên (born 1229), Vietnamese writings often use the national language.

This word typically refers to China in most contexts, by virtue of most Chinese speakers being from China. However, the specific country and inclusiveness intended depends on context, so a Malaysian Chinese using this term would be referring to Malaysia for instance. 我國／我国 (wǒguó) should be used with care when the speaker and the audience do not necessarily share a national identity or the speaker is not from a Chinese-speaking country to avoid confusion or offense.

Within Chinese online discourse, the term is associated with officious and jingoistic phrasing to the extent that it spawned the retort 你國 / 你国 (Nǐguó) ("your country" or "your all's country") even among fellow countrymen, distinguishing the China of officials and the well-off from the land of its common people.
