From Proto-Indo-European *h₂enk- (corner, hirn), same source as ᾰ̓́γκος (ắnkos, glen, dell), ᾰ̓́γκῡρᾰ (ắnkūră, anchor) and ᾰ̓γκῠ́λος (ănkŭ́los, curved, bent).
