Borrowed from Sanskrit विनाडी (vināḍī, “period of 24 seconds”), from वि- (vi-, “away”) + नाडी (nāḍī, “pipe”). Cognate with Khmer វិនាទី (viniətii), Lao ວິນາທີ (wi nā thī).
