  • Inherited from Prakrit सिज्जइ (sijjaï), from Sanskrit स्विद्यति (svidyati). Cognate with Punjabi ਸਿੱਜਣਾ (sijjaṇā) and more distantly German schwitzen (to sweat). Related to पसीना (pasīnā) and स्वेद (sved).
