Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *twayṣ-, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *twayš-, from Proto-Indo-European *tweys- (“to shake”). Compare Avestan 𐬚𐬡𐬌𐬯𐬭𐬀 (θβisra, “glitter”), Ancient Greek σείω (seíō, “to shake”) (and maybe Σείριος (Seírios)).
