Etymology

From earlier دلوقت (dilwaʔt), from Arabic ذَا ٱلْوَقْتَ (ḏā l-waqta, this time). The final -i began as a linking vowel inserted before another word due to the double-closed syllable in dilwaʔt, and over time it came to be considered part of the word. By surface analysis, ده (da) +‎ الوقت (el-waʔt), literally this time.
