Inherited from Old Slovak hutoriť, from Proto-Slavic *gutoriti. Cognates include Belarusian гу́тарыць (hútarycʹ), Russian гуто́рить (gutóritʹ), Slovak hutoriť and Carpathian Rusyn and Ukrainian гуто́рити (hutóryty).
