Etymology
Cognate to Livonian vēna (“port, Daugava”). Perhaps ultimately (like the name of the river Väina) from Proto-Slavic *dveinā (“the river Daugava”).[1] Also compare Finnish väinä, but this similarity in both form and meaning is not mentioned by EES.
