Etymology
Unknown origin. The -vény ending seems to be a noun-forming suffix, however, it cannot be proven due to the unclear etymon. Despite noticeable similarities to Turkish töre (“custom, law”), the Hungarian word's derivation from Old Turkic is less likely for morphological reasons.[1]
