Etymology
From Middle Irish tóraigecht,[1] from tóir (“help, pursuit”), from a prefixed form of Proto-Celtic *reteti (“to run”). By surface analysis, tóraigh + -íocht, though etymologically, the verb is a back-formation from the noun.
