  1. (pharmacology) That induces a temporary state of altered perception and symptoms similar to those of psychosis (such as hallucinations).
    • 2023, David Nutt, Psychedelics, page 119:
      Considering the way government researchers administered LSD, it's not surprising that an official view emerged that LSD made you mad. The researchers described tripping and pyschosis as one and the same, and called LSD and similar substances 'psychotomimetic' - that is, mimicking madness.
