Back-formation from transitive ngibulin, from Betawi ngibulin (“to make a fool of”, literally “to show buttocks to”), from N- -in + kibul (“buttocks”), with the verb stem derived from Balinese kibul (“buttocks of a fowl”). Equivalent to nge- + kibul.
