Partial reduplication of mātaki.

mātakitaki (passive mātakitakinia or mātakitakitia)

  1. watch, gaze, inspect, examine, observe
    Ka mutu te harirū, ka haere a Tā Hōri Kerei ki te mātakitaki i te whare i mahia ai mōna e Te Mānihera.
    When the handshakes had finished Sir George Grey went to inspect the house that Mr Maunsell had built for him.

mātakitaki

  1. inspection, observation, sightseeing
    Ka mutu tēnā mahi a te mātakitaki, ka hoki ki tō mātou puni.
