Inherited from Ottoman Turkish لخوسه (lohusa), from Greek λεχώνα (lechóna, “a woman who gave birth at most forty days ago”), from Byzantine Greek λεχώνα (lekhṓna), from Ancient Greek λεχώ (lekhṓ).
