Etymology

Probably a modification influenced by Norwegian ild (fire) of the dialectal eimørje (ember, glowing ash), from Old Norse eimyrja (glowing remains of a fire), composed of Old Norse eimr + Old Norse yrja; see eim and -yrja (fire).
