Etymology
From Proto-Somaloid *ɖíig-, from Proto-East Cushitic *ṭiyaġ ("blood").[1] Cognate with Jiiddu dhig, Arbore dhiiq, Oromo dhiiga, Burji c'eeji, Hadiyya t'iiga, Kambaata qeegu, Tsamai c'egde. Also Afar xiiko (“grave”) may be related.
