From cit (to make full, to stuff), from Proto-Albanian *tˢeita, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷeiətos. Cognate to Proto-Slavic *čitъ (whole), Lithuanian ki̇́etas (hard).[1]

Etymology 2

Unclear. Possibly related to cys (to goad).
Alternatively, related to Greek τσίτα (tsíta, pin, hairpin). To be noted is the existence of sahitë (knitting needle), from Greek σαΐτα (saḯta, arrow), ultimately from Latin sagitta, which might be the common source.[2]
