Taigi
- (formally prescriptive in Taiwan as of 2024; proscribed in mainland China) A language spoken in Taiwan, which descended from Hokkien; the Taiwanese language.
Usage notes
The term Taiwanese in more commonly used in English. However, the authorities in Taiwan have officially prescribed the use of the term.[1][2] The authorities in mainland China, on the other hand, proscribe the use of the term, attributing it to part of the Taiwanese desinicization movement.[3] The same is true for anti-independence politicians and personalities in Taiwan.[4]
