Reconstruction notes

Onset *tɬ- is inferred from derived terms and other reconstructions that yield k- in Ketic and Kottic but l- in Arinic and Pumpokolic (cf. *tɬewtja (winter).)

Etymology

Compared to Proto-Athabaskan *-tɬαɣ̇ ~ -ɬ-tɬαɣ̇ (to rub, to anoint with, to smear).[3] Perhaps also related to *tɬiwdʳ (oil, lard, suet, tallow), see there for more cognates in Athabaskan languages.
