Reconstruction:Proto-Tungusic/xebtilē
Proto-Tungusic
Etymology
Unknown. Analyzed as *xeb + *-ti (“dual-pair forming suffix”) + *-lē (“locative suffix”) per Doerfer & Knüppel. Most likely related to *xebte (“lungs”) due to phonological similarity.
Doerfer also states that the Tungusic words might have derived from Proto-Mongolic *ebčexün (“breastbone”)[1], however a possible loaning has not yet been proved.
