Proto-Tungusic

Etymology

Unknown. Analyzed as *xeb +‎ *-ti (dual-pair forming suffix) +‎ *-lē (locative suffix) per Doerfer & Knüppel. Most likely related to *xebte (lungs) due to phonological similarity.

Doerfer also states that the Tungusic words might have derived from Proto-Mongolic *ebčexün (breastbone)[1], however a possible loaning has not yet been proved.

Noun

*xebtilē
