Proto-Sino-Tibetan

Reconstruction

  • Proto-Sino-Tibetan: *rdung (Coblin, 1986)
    • Proto-Tibeto-Burman: *r-duŋ (Matisoff, 2003; STEDT)

For comparisons, see STEDT, Schuessler (2007: 196), Hill (2019: 36, 273), and Zhang, Jacques & Lai (2019: 85).

Most reflexes imply a voiced/prenasalized initial, but the Burmish and Jingpho cognates with voiceless aspirated initials force a voiceless-initial root to be posited.

Verb

*rV-N-təwŋ
