See Jacques & Stevens (2024).[1] The similarity of the Tani and Chinese to Proto-Mon-Khmer *lik is well-known. Schuessler and Sun believe the Tani and Chinese are borrowed from Austroasiatic, while Sagart, Jacques et al. believe that Austroasiatic borrowed from Sino-Tibetan.
