Proto-Finnic

Etymology

Probably borrowed from Proto-Norse [Term?] (compare dialectal Swedish rita (to erect, lift up, direct)), related to Proto-Germanic *rihtijaną. Borrowing from Proto-Baltic *reita (whence dialectal Lithuanian rieta (to pile)) is not possible due to phonetic issues.

Noun

*riitta[1]
