Old Novgorodian

Etymology

Expected reflex of Proto-Slavic *cědilъka (from an earlier pre-palatalized form *kědilъka). By surface analysis, *кѣдити (*kěditi) +‎ -ъка (-ŭka).

Reconstructed based on the dialectal Russian кеди́лка (kedílka, sieve, strainer)[1], originating from Old Novgorodian and Old Pskovian, where the most important feature was the absence of the second palatalization of the velar *k, *g, *x in the position before and *i, which were only softened to [kʲ], [ɡʲ], [xʲ].[2] Compare with Russian цеди́лка (cedílka).
