Etymology
New Latin. Ozi- from English Ozzie + Mops. Ozzie is colloquial for Australian, referring to Australia, the centre of diversity of the group. Mops is a genus of free-tailed bat, and is used as a suffix for many other molossid (free-tailed bat) genera. Mops is Ancient Greek μῦς (mûs, “mouse”) + -ops (“eye; resembling”, from Ancient Greek ὄψ (óps))
