Litzmannstadt

German

Etymology

Named after German general and Nazi Party member Karl Litzmann. The name was chosen because Litzmann conducted a counteroffensive against the Russian army in neighbouring Brzeziny during World War I in November 1914. His name's phonetic similarity to that of the city might also have played a role.
