Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Bantu *kɪ̀dɪ̀mɪ̀dà (“Pleiades”). Hetherwick explains that it is named after the verb *-dɪ̀ma (“to cultviate”) because its appearance in the night sky indicates that the planting season is about to come.
