Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Bantu *kɪ̀dɪ̀mɪ̀dà (Pleiades). Hetherwick explains that it is named after the verb *-dɪ̀ma (to cultviate) because its appearance in the night sky indicates that the planting season is about to come.
