Learned borrowing from Latin apocope, from Ancient Greek ἀποκοπή (apokopḗ).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): /apoˈkoːpə/, (seldom) /aˈpoːkoˌpeː/
  • Duden prescribes the second form after the Latin pronunciation. In practice, the word is usually stressed on -ko-, as are (even according to Duden) Prokope and Synkope.
