Oscan
Etymology
From Proto-Italic *wijฤ, from Proto-Indo-European *wihโehโ-,[1] from *weyhโ- (โto pursue, be strongโ).
According to Buck,[2] in Oscan the Proto-Italic first-declension nominative singular ending *-ฤ changes in quality to a sound similar to [ษห], which was written as รบ โจ๐โฉ (representing [o]) or, more rarely, u โจ๐โฉ.
Cognate with Lithuanian vyti (โto pursueโ). See also vฤซs, invฤซtus, invฤซtล, Ancient Greek ฮฟแผถฮผฮฟฯ (oรฎmos).
