Compound of 食し (oshi, “eating, drinking”, 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 食す (osu, “to eat, to drink”, 尊敬語 (sonkeigo, “respectful, honorific”))) + 物 (mono, “thing”).[1]
