雨(あめ) (ame, “rain”) + 降(ふ)らし (furashi, 連(れん)用(よう)形(けい) (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 降(ふ)らす (furasu, “to make fall”)), because they release purple ink which resembles rain clouds.
