Etymology
バイキング (baikingu, “Viking”) + 料理 (ryōri, “dish”); literally, “Viking dish”. The name "Viking" was used as the name of a restaurant of the Imperial Hotel; it was the first restaurant in Japan that served smorgasbord-style meals.[1][2]
