Etymology

バイキング (baikingu, Viking) +‎ 料理 (ryōri, dish); literally, Viking dish. The name "Viking" was used as the name of a restaurant of the Imperial Hotel; it was the first restaurant in Japan that served smorgasbord-style meals.[1][2]
