ⵡⵔⵉⵖ
Central Atlas Tamazight
Etymology
Possibly from Proto-Berber *-ăwriɣ, the qualitative perfect verb of *wăraɣ (“yellow”), from Proto-Afroasiatic *warāḳ- (“green, yellow”). Cognate with Egyptian wꜣḏ, Proto-Semitic *waraḳ-, see there for more. Hardly borrowed from Arabic وَرَق (waraq) for phonological and semantic reasons. See also ⴰⵡⵔⴰⵖ (awraɣ).
Pronunciation
Verb
