Cognate with Northern Thai ᨠᩮᩢ᩠ᨷ, Lao ເກັບ (kep), Lü ᦵᦂᧇ (k̇eb), Tai Dam ꪹꪀꪸꪚ, Tai Nüa ᥐᥥᥙᥱ (kěp), Shan ၵဵပ်း (káep), Ahom 𑜀𑜢𑜆𑜫 (kip), Zhuang gip.
Compare Khmer កើប (kaəp, “to gather up”). False cognate with English keep.
