Etymology
From Pali vijjā (“knowledge; science”), from Sanskrit विद्या (vidyā, “learning; knowledge; wisdom”). Cognate with Lao ວິຊາ (wi sā), Khmer វិជ្ជា (vɨcciə), Burmese ဝိဇ္ဇာ (wijja). Doublet of วิชชา. Related to วิทยา (wít-tá-yaa).
