Inherited from Proto-Southwestern Tai *ɣamᴬ⁴ (gold), from Old Chinese (OC *krɯm). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨤᩴᩣ, Lao ຄຳ (kham), ᦆᧄ (xam), Shan ၶမ်း (khám), Ahom 𑜁𑜪 (khaṃ) or 𑜁𑜞𑜪 (khraṃ), Zhuang gim, Saek กฺั๊ม.
