Borrowed from Classical Persian بادام (bādām, “almond”), from Middle Persian 𐭥𐭠𐭣𐭠𐭬 (wʾtʾm /wādām/). Cognate with Bengali বাদাম (badam), Gujarati બદામ (badām), Kannada ಬಾದಾಮಿ (bādāmi), Kashmiri बादाम (bādām) / بادام (bādām), Malayalam ബദാം (badāṁ), Marathi बदाम (badām), Nepali बदाम् (badām), Odia ବାଦାମ (bādāma), Punjabi ਬਦਾਮ (badām).
