From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hyudʰyás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hyawdʰ- (“to fight”), from Proto-Indo-European *Hyewdʰ-. Derived from अयुध्य (ayudhyá, “unfought”), attested in the Rigveda.
