Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *(s)tenh₂- (“thunder; to thunder”). Related to Persian تندر (tondar, “thunder”), English thunder, Latin tonitrus (“thunder”), Proto-Celtic *toranos (“thunder”).

इन्द्र॑श् च॒ यद् यु॑यु॒धाते॒ अहि॑श् चो॒ताप॒रीभ्यो॑ म॒घवा॒ वि जि॑ग्ये ॥- nā́smai vidyún ná tanyatúḥ siṣedha ná yā́ṃ míham ákirad dhrādúniṃ ca.
índraś ca yád yuyudhā́te áhiś cotā́parī́bhyo maghávā ví jigye. - The lightning and thunder failed to help him [against Indra]; the mist and hail that he spread around were similarly of no use to him.
When Indra and the Dragon fought, the Generous One [Indra] attained a victory for all times to come.
