طحبش
North Levantine Arabic
Etymology
Either from طحش (ṭaḥaš, “to attack, to charge”) with an infixed ـبـ (-b-),[1] or from طبش (ṭabaš, “to slam”) with an infixed ـحـ (-ḥ-).[2] The ـبـ (-b-) infix would be as in شحبر (šaḥbar, “to blacken, stain with ink”)[1] from the root of شَحَّر (šaḥḥar, “to blacken”), and the ـحـ (-ḥ-) infix would be as in بحلق (baḥlaʔ, “to stare at, ogle”)[2] from the root of بَلْقَا (balʔa, “wide-open (eye)”).
