Etymology 1
Borrowed from Iranian with suffix ـی (-i) attached, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *cuxráh (“red”). Doublet of سرخ (sorx) which was inherited. Compare Central Kurdish سوور (sûr, “red”), Pashto سور (sur, “red”), Northern Luri سور (sur, “red”).
