Etymology 1

Borrowed from Iranian with suffix ـی (-i) attached, ultimately from Proto-Iranian *cuxráh (red). Doublet of سرخ (sorx) which was inherited. Compare Central Kurdish سوور (sûr, red), Pashto سور (sur, red), Northern Luri سور (sur, red).
