Etymology

Pseudo-Arabism from the Arabic root و ك ء (w k ʔ) related to reclination. This root has also spawned متکا (motakâ, “bolster pillow”) from Arabic مُتَّكَأ (muttakaʔ, “a place where one reclines; pad, bolster, cushion”) and expresses religious symbolism associated with it through the life-sustaining concept of “leaning upon God”.
