Etymology

Inherited from Karakhanid امدی (ämdi), a derivation of Proto-Turkic *em- (“now”). Cognate with Old Anatolian Turkish امدی (imdi) and Old Turkic 𐰢𐱃𐰃 (amtï).

      häzrät-i jibrāʿīl (äläyhi s-sälām) kälib, dediki, “äy, dāwud! ‌emdi‌ qäwmiñni īmānġa dä'wät qılmaġıl,” dedi, “čūnkı ällāh tä'ālā bälā ıbarur.”
