Etymology

Probably from اِهْدَعْش (ihdaʕš) by lenition (see South Levantine Arabic هْدَعْش (hdaʕš)), itself from احْدَعْش (ḥdaʕš, iḥdaʕš) by dissimilation of the pharyngeal ح () from the pharyngeal ع (ʕ). Ultimately from Arabic أَحَدَ عَشَرَ (ʔaḥada ʕašara).
