Etymology
Borrowed from Jewish Babylonian Aramaic תיקו (literally “let it stand”), used to indicate that a question remains undecided, apocopic form of earlier Aramaic תְּקוּם (təqūm), third-person singular feminine future tense of קָם (qām, “to rise, to stand”), cognate with Hebrew קָם (qām, “to rise”).
